I just need a voided check for direct deposit.
Use the free VOID check page: type your bank details, print or save as PDF. No account needed, and nothing is sent to us. Signed-in users can also print VOID checks from the app at no charge.
Is it legal to print my own checks?
Yes. In the United States you're free to print checks for an account you own. What makes a check valid is the routing number, the account number and your signature, not who printed it. Businesses have done this with accounting software for decades, and banks accept them every day.
What paper do I need?
Blank check stock: security paper with a pre-printed background, sold in packs of 100 to 500 by office-supply stores and online. Choose the business voucher format, "check on top", which puts the check on the top third of a letter-size sheet with two stubs below it.
Do I need special magnetic ink?
The line of numbers along the bottom is specified to be printed in magnetic ink, so sorting machines can read it. Checks now move between banks as images and that line can also be read optically, so ordinary laser toner is often accepted, but the receiving bank's equipment may still read it magnetically, and whether a check it cannot read is accepted, handled by hand or returned varies by bank. If you deposit in volume, a magnetic toner cartridge drops into most laser printers and removes the doubt. More on this in the guides.
Will my bank accept it?
The check carries the same routing number, account number, layout and bottom-line encoding as the ones your bank sells you. Print one on plain paper first and lay it over a check from your checkbook to confirm the alignment, then deposit a small one before you rely on it.
How do credits work?
One credit prints one check. New accounts get three free credits that last 60 days. After that you buy credits in packs (2 for $4.49, 10 for $8.99 or 30 for $22.99), and credits you buy never expire. Reprinting a check you already printed, after a paper jam say, doesn't use a credit.
Credits or a plan: which should I pick?
Credits if you write the odd check: nothing recurring, and they never expire. A plan if you print regularly. Start is $9 a month or $45 a year for unlimited checks and 3 checking accounts; Professional is $14 a month or $69 a year for 10 accounts. Work is $29 a month or $145 a year for 25 accounts, up to 5 people on your team, checks sent by email and API keys. You can cancel a plan any time and keep printing until the period you paid for ends; any credits you already bought stay in your account either way.
Where is my account information stored?
On our server. Your routing and account numbers are stored encrypted, and the encryption key is kept separate from the database. Lists, receipts and our support tools show only the last four digits. The full numbers appear only where a check needs them: to you, after you sign in, on the checks you print and when you edit that account; on Work, to the people you let print from that account; and on a check you send, to the person you pay, when they open its link. A login holds two checking accounts on the free plan, three on Start and ten on Professional. Work holds 25.
Do I need an emailed code every time I sign in?
Not every time. Because the account holds bank details, a new device needs your password plus a six-digit code emailed to you, so a leaked password alone doesn't open the account. On the code screen you can choose "Remember this device for a week". This is on for everyone and can't be turned off.
Which check layouts are supported?
Business voucher checks: the check on the top third of a letter-size page with two detachable stubs beneath it.
Set up once in about 4 minutes.
Then each check takes about 30 seconds.
3 checks free, good for 60 days. Then credits from 77¢ a check, or unlimited from $9 a month.
